REVIEW

Let’s start this review with a little backstory because, to me, the backstory is kind of important and will make you appreciate this review a lot more.

I am not and have never really been a romance reader; aside from your classics like Austen, and the Brontë sisters, and fantasy romance of course, I’m not the type to pick up a romance novel…ESPECIALLY a contemporary chic lit. Now you might be wondering if you’re not a romance reader, why did you pick up this book? Well my fellow readers, let’s rewind the clock a little to 2022.

Last year, all over BookTok and Bookstagram was Emily Henry’s books; especially the book Book Lovers. I kept seeing reviews after reviews on this book and everyone was OBSESSING over it and I needed to know why. So curious me went to my local Kmart, picked up a copy and decided to give it a go. I dove in with so much confidence that I’ll miraculously love a contemporary romance chic lit out of the blue and rate this book a 5/5 star. I read roughly around 30 or so pages and just could not do it. I DNF’ed it and put a post on my bookstagram about how I just could not fathom how this is so popular. Who’s laughing now right? Fast forward to today and having read this entire book, I can honestly say 2022 me has never been more wrong!

Book Lovers is your feel good novel that you would turn to when you’re feeling down and in need of a cozy and comfort read. It’s funny that I connect this book to this certain mood because that’s how I feel about the show Gilmore Girls and Book Lovers definitely reminds me and gives me the vibes of the show. The sisterly bond similar to the Mother daughter bond between Loralei and Rory. The small town, town hall meetings, unexpected love interests, Mug and Shot which reminds me a little of Luke’s Diner. These similarities may not be obvious or the same to others but that’s the vibe I got when reading this and I am LIVING FOR IT! I loved every single character in this book, the plot, the writing, the little plot twists and also THE SETTING! Amazing! Divine, ✨chefs kiss ✨I am definitely a country gal and this just felt so right! I loved the tropes in this book and how the ✨spicy scenes ✨ were written in a cringe-less way. This was so important and made this read a lot more enjoyable for me as I don’t enjoy those spicy smut books. This was an easy to follow story that made me laugh, swoon and almost cry at times. Emily Henry is a great author and I can definitely understand why she has become so popular in the literary community.

Now, does this mean I’m a contemporary romance reader? No, but I can happily admit that I enjoy Emily Henry’s work and will definitely be reading her other books! This book hit all the right areas to be a 5/5 star read. What have I learnt from this experience? Well many things, but the main being to never give up on a book if its not right time the first time. There's always the right time to read a book and the right time to love, appreciate and connect to it. This was my time for Book Lovers and I am so glad I gave it another go! I think I will be revisiting Sunshine Falls again real soon!

I highly recommend picking up this book if you need a little pick-me-up or just want a book to cozy up on the lounge with, with a warm blanket and a hot cuppa tea! I am very excited to read other books by Emily Henry so stay tuned for those reviews! ♥️

I hope you all enjoyed this review!

Until next time,

Andrea.
